Can Apple TV be used with WPA2?

Anyone out there managed to get their Apple TV to see Home Sharing with WPA2?

I'm using an Apple TV 2, with Internet shared from my iMac.

When I change the security on my iMac wifi (ie Internet sharing) to WPA2, the Apple TV can't see it, so Home Sharing won't work. But WPA2 is the most secure option, so there's no point setting any of the others.

Any suggestions?

Hi. Thanks for replying.

The iMac is in another room, so a long ethernet cable isn't practical. It has a built-in airport, so I use that to share Internet around my home. An ethernet cable is plugged from my modem into the Mac, which then shares wirelessly.

Using WEP, the Apple TV can see when Home Sharing is on, but obviously it's not very secure. That's why I want to switch to using WPA2. But when I do that, the Apple TV can't see that Home Sharing is on.

Hi Brian. Thanks for your reply. Why was your first one removed?

Not that I wish to contradict, but clearly there is something about the use of WPA2 that is interfering with Home Sharing. If I use the exact same setup without security, or with WEP, then Home Sharing works. With WPA2, it doesn't.

I tried pinging the ATV from the iMac. It continually sent and received packets, so it worked.

And yes, iTunes is on.

Very odd. I suspect it isn't the WPA2 itself rather some DHCP or firewall issue with AppleTV not detecting the Home Share correctly.

If you can access the internet then the WPA2 networking is working.

Have you connected via WPA2 then turned off Home Sharing in iTunes and AppleTV, then signed in again on both to refresh credentials?

Update

I recently upgraded my late 2009 iMac to a late 2013 iMac.

Even though I restored my old system, files and everything from the old Mac to the new one, suddenly Home Sharing works with WPA2 Personal.

No idea what the problem is, but there's clearly some issue with older iMacs.
