How do I use Airdrop btwn Macbook & iPhone?

Trying to connect Macbook Air to iPhone 5s to either use AirDrop or Bluetooth to send files.. Saying that my phone is not compatable with my Mac, and both devices are up to date and brand new. Cannot seem to even send things btwn devices even through Bluetooth. Any suggestions?

Neither is currently supported. You can use AirDrop to share content from one iOS7 device to another iOS7 device: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5887

You can also use AirDrop to share between one OS X Mac computer and another OS X Mac Computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4783

But you cannot currently use AirDrop to share between a computer and an iPhone.

The only supported Bluetooth profile between an iPhone and a computer is for tethering (sharing internet connection/hotspot) and that is only if your cellular plan supports it. Sharing data between the iPhone and computer is not supported. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647

On the basis AirDrop is slow and often 'hit & miss' just between iOS devices, perhaps this is not a technology worth pursuing between iOS and OS X? It generally proves much quicker to transfer files via Mail. Are there any alternative technologies or reliable updates/fixes likely to be coming soon to this space?
