Permissions

When you close all windows then quit Safari, is that the same as repairing your permissions? Please explain.

Thanks,

No. Closing windows and quitting programs has no effect on file permissions. Saving files in certain folders may have an effect on the permissions of those files. Sometimes permissions get corrupted or oddly changed by certain operations made to them.

However, the Mac OS usually knows what the permissions to what files in what directories should be. To repair permissions, go to the Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility and run the Repair Permissions operation when you select your resident drive. If something still needs to be fixed, you can customize or manually set the permissions of some files by the Info window (as long as you have admin privileges). Select the file (or folder), choose File>Get Info then look at the permissions on the bottom of the info window. To change them, click on the lock icon in the bottom right of the info window then choose the appropriate permission setting for yourself or another user, group or everyone.
