Help! I need Java runtime engine for Mac OS 9.0!

Hello, everybody! ๐Ÿ™‚

I need to get Java 2 runtime engine, release 1.4 or better, for Mac OS 9.0!

In a nutshell, here's why:

I need to install an application called Arachnophilia on my Mac Hard Drive. According to the main Web Page for Arachnophilia ( http://arachnoid.com/arachnophilia), I need to have Java 2 runtime engine release 1.4 or better in order for Arachnophilia to work on my computer system!

The problem is, on the Apple.com Web site, they only seem to have Java softwar for Mac OS X and higher nowadays! ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ If they ever used to have Java 2 release 1.4 (or better) runtime engine for OS 9, they don't anymore! ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Trying to find what I'm looking for using search engines doesn't seem to turn out anything useful, either!

Surely, there MUST be somewhere where I can still find Java 2 release 1.4 (or better) runtime engine for OS 9, either on a Web site or on an FTP site! ๐Ÿ™‚

For that matter, I think I might even already have it on my hard drive, but I don't know how to check! ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Can someone please help?

Thanks in advance! ๐Ÿ™‚

Eveluharv...

That is a full blown - stand alone Java Application that is capable of making itself a layer within the Mac OS - Core. (Better have the current Security Updates)

I was able to get it to work in Mac OS 10 but I suspect 10.3.9 or greater is required because of the heavy Java 2 - 1.4. (see below link)

Also see Mac OS 10.3.9 Screen shot of Arachnophilia. Notice that it blends itself into the Apple Menu Bar? Mac OS 9 cannot do that, unfortunately.

If you need an HTML Editor I can look one up for you, just ask.

Thank you for your response, Ron! ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me see if I understand you correctly. I believe that what you are saying, in part, is that Arachnophila probably would not work very well with OS 9.0, because the heavy Java requirements for Arachnophilia are more than what 9.0 was designed to handle. Have I got it right so far?

In any case -- laying Arachnophilia aside for the moment -- what I am really looking for is an HTML editor that I can also use as a general text editor, in place of the Simple Text program that came pre-intalled on my computer. One that I heard of, and I have also been told was very good, was called Simple Edit, and was produced by a company called Evatac. Unfortunately, however, as far as I have been able to tell, the Evatac company is no longer in business and Simple Edit is no longer availble for download anywhere.

If you need an HTML Editor I can look one up for you,
just ask.

Would you please do that, Ron? I would really appreciate! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you very much once again! ๐Ÿ™‚

Eveluharv...

I see of no-way for Arachnophila to work in Mac OS 9, I am afraid. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

For a Simple Text replacement I recomend BBEdit Lite (Free) from the below website.

http://www.barebones.com/products/bblite/index.shtml

Most Mozilla Mac OS 9 browsers like WaMCom below, include a HTML builder and editor for free.

http://wamcom.org/

A $15 Shareware HTML editor called "HTML Creator" looks rather promising. (Below)

For some of my odds and ends stuff I go to the one below.

OOps Overload! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I may look for another one as it now slips my mind because of the overload.
