Jan 28, 2014 1:52 PM in response to charles234by King_Penguin,You can only gift via a credit card, you can't use your account's balance for it (that can only be used to buy content for yourself) - redeeming another gift card won't change that. As far as I know Apple haven't said why it's like that.
From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2736 :
Note: When purchasing an iTunes Gift, a valid credit card must be on file; you can't purchase an iTunes Gift with store credit. You can't redeem purchased gifts outside of the country of purchase.

Jan 28, 2014 2:00 PM in response to King_Penguinby varjak paw,Apple has indeed not said why it's not possible, but they're not the only company that has that restriction. Amazon does as well. So there must be some legal or accounting reason why this is not allowed, though I have no idea what that might be.
Regards.

Jan 28, 2014 3:34 PM in response to King_Penguinby charles234,When you start the process to send a gift song to someone, a pop up window will ask you for billing info. One of the options at that point, is to redeem an Itunes card. So there must be a connection to a users online account, unless, in addition to the song/album being gifted, the recipient also gets the remainder of the gift card.
I am hoping for a reply from Apple so I can tell them how silly their policy is.

Jan 29, 2014 12:21 AM in response to charles234by King_Penguin,Apple don't post on these forums. The billing page is the standard billing screen, if you redeem a card it won't be used for gifting - only your credit card willbe used for the gift.
If you want to leave feedback for Apple then you can do so via this page (but don't expect a reply from them) : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
