Q: Printer says 'Printing - Printer is not responding'

After we installed OX S 10.9.1 I am unable to print wirelessly to my Brother MFC 7860-DW.  It shows in the printer queue that it is printing but then printer is not responding.

I reinstalled the printer drivers and have checked to see it is attached to the wifi and everything looks okay.  I am not that up on computer stuff so I struggle to figure it out.  It worked just fine before I upgraded my IMac.  But now I am left with issues and am struggling to fix.

Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Same happens to my with canon printers

Mavericks has broken the bonjour system of notification and the only solution is to switch the printer on and off

    But it will happen again...

Since you mention upgrading, and if you haven't tried this already, delete the Brother from Printers & Scanners and add it again.

If this does not help, then you could try a reset of the printing system. Note that this action will remove all devices from the Printers & Scanners preference pane, but not the supporting drivers, so you will just need to add the devices again.

I tried this and it didn't help.  It was suggested as being as simple as turning the printer on and off and it didn't help.  I have deleted the printer drivers and reset them and no avail.

I can't print or scan.  And am very frustrated with this wireless technology......not a geek

I wish it were this simple.  I tried this and when it didn't work, I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in.  I thought that would help....but it didn't.

Can you open Safari and then click on Safari in the menu bar and select Preferences. Then select the Advanced tab and enable the setting "Include Bonjour in the Favorites bar" then close the Preferences pane. This action will make an entry of Bonjour appear in the Favorites bar of Safari. If you click on this Bonjour bookmark, do you see the Brother printer?

If you select the Brother entry you will connect to the internal web page of the printer. From one of the available menus you should be able to determine what IP address the Brother is using. Can you see if you can find this information because I want to create a new printer that uses the IP address instead of the advertised Bonjour name.

I have had the same problem.  How I fixed it was by going into settings, then clicking on printers and scanners, and under default printers and scanners, select your printer.  Mine was set on "last printer used".  When I changed it to default to my printer, it worked fine.  Hope this helps.
