Airdrop is for transferring contacts between iPhone 5, 5S and 5C. So you can give someone your electronic business card.

It's a feature in iOS and OSX for sharing files wirelessly with nearby devices without the need to connect to a network.

Except that airdrop does not work between iOS devices and Macs. Only between devices with the Same OS.
