Anybody else been waiting on a new motherboard?

My MBP shutoff last Wednesday and wouldn't even power back up. I sent it off on Thursday, and Apple had it Friday morning. Monday morning my repair status went to "On Hold - Part on Order". The applecare rep told me I was waiting on a new Main Logic Board. Is anybody else waiting on one of these right now? It seems like they must be on pretty short supply right now.

I'm not waiting on a main logic board, so I can't give you any firsthand info on the suspected MLB shortage. However, I have been waiting to send in my MBP for repairs because I was afraid that a shortage might happen (based on forum posts here).

I plan to wait another week (hopefully not any longer!?) before sending mine in, but this may just make things worse. It may take a week or more to crank out another batch of MLBs. In the meantime I am stuck with a malfunctioning MBP that can't leave my desk without sh*tting its pants. 😟 Hope you get your new MLB soon!

This is just depressing. I know that others have gone through far more trouble than I have had to this point, but it just makes me plain sad to think that I might be without my MBP for more than a week. My company is providing me with an IBM thinkpad as a loaner, and while that is good, it makes me more sad b/c I hate PC's. Let's just hope some more motherboards make their way into the tech depot.

Was told on the 25th (of July) that I would be contacted in 3-5 days when it arrived and then would only take 1 day to service. Today is the 2nd of August. Still nothing and I called in myself to check. Not fun.

Also, a concern here for all of us...

Apparently the logic board replacement 'solution' cripples the videocard by as much as 30% (in an attempt to reduce heat I'm told). I'm getting graphic glitches already and last time I checked, we all paid for graphics cards at 100%, no?

Does that sound like a decent/acceptable solution to anyone? I have a hard time swallowing this for some reason...

This is such a rumor, starting I guess, here right now, by you. Please back it up with fact. I haven't read this anywhere, and video works just as good now as before my MLB replacement.

Mines in for the awful buzzing as well as heat. It's the buzzing I couldn't swallow.
After having to leave it with the local fixit agent for a fortnight to no avail last week I finally got beyond leval one with the Apple store and spoke to a 'product specialist'. They sent me the box and now mine is also pending a part. Did not say which one though. Assume it's the main logic board. After all it's the processor which is making that god awful noise.
Can't help thinking weve all been given the runaround on this. Here's hoping it finally gets sorted for all involved. The unfortunate thing is Macintosh's apples are leaving a sour taste all too often these days.

Peter,

1 ) "This is such a rumor, starting I guess, here right now, by you."
Your guess is incorrect. I do not have a time machine and did not use it to go back in time to post all the other threads on this topic. Also, please be careful when insulting people on the Discussion Forums. The Apple moderators do not appreciate it any more than the users who come here looking for pertinent information and intelligent discourse.

2 ) "I haven't read this anywhere"
No one is responsible for educating you nor doing reading and research for you other than you yourself. And while you have not compensated anyone for doing so, I have taken the time to compile a list of threads on this topic in the hopes of providing other people here, including yourself I suppose, with some potentially valuable and relevant information. May it serve you well and you're welcome (though you may still wish to apologize at some point, soon).

3 ) Also, please note the word 'Apparently' in the previous post. If you are unsure of its definition, it can be found here:

http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_/apparently.html

To quote: "according to what seems to be the case but may not actually be so". It's use was intentional indicating precisely that point and level of uncertainty. When you state that, "video works just as good now as before my MLB replacement" one does wonder by what objective criteria you are measuring said performance. Have you collected before and after data in relation to clockspeeds and benchmark results? If so, I'm sure we would all be very interested and appreciative if you would share it with the rest us and add to this body of information for everyone's mutual benefit as others have intended to do.

Thanks, and wishing you all the best, even in light of your response.

I just called to get an update on my ON HOLD repair. They are waiting for RAM?!?! I told them that I use third-party RAM and I sent them the original 512MB chip that isn't used. She sent a message to the depot to let them know that RAM is not the issue, but I no longer have any confidence that they are going to repair my problems (bluetooth sporadic--input devices unusable, heat, and whine issues).

I finally sent in my MBPRO on August 5th. The genius at the store diagnosed the machine as having a heat/whine problem (among other things), and recommended that the main logic board be replaced (among other things).

I got my machine back yesterday (August 11th), and a whopping seven parts had been replaced. Unfortunately, the main logic board was not one of those parts. The only parts relevant to heat/whine that were replaced were two temperature sensors. My poor MBPRO is as hot and whiney as ever, but at least now the temperature sensors work so I can know exactly how hot it is. Yay!

I suspect that the techs in Houston simply ignored the genius' recommendation for a logic board replacement, as they didn't have the part anyway. It is also somewhat ominous that they didn't even put me on a wait-list for the part; perhaps I'd be so far down the wait-list that I wouldn't receive the part even after the next shipment?

Anybody else been waiting on a new motherboard?
