Stuck on grey Screen on Install of 10.6.3 from Install DVD

I have a MBP 2010 2.53 GHz i5 4GB. I had to order the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD from Apple (as advised) as original OSX version install disc was lost. However after pressing and holding C (or 'option' and selecting install DVD) I can't get passed the grey apple screen with with logo. Disc spins but nothing happens.

Currently the machine has 10.9.1., but I want to erase the drive (write zeros to the drive) and reinstall the original OSX for a new owner. Have Apple given me the correct OSX?

Mac OS X (10.6.3)

If you are using a 'white retail' disk, that will not work in your case. You will need a copy of the original installation disk which can be obtained from Apple Customer Support. Have your MBP serial number ready and there is a charge.
