Temperature & fan speed problem.

Hi, everybody!

I've a MB Pro 2,2 (A1211) bought in 2007.

Question: is 6000 rpm fan speed and 70"C normal (while running Mail, MS Word and Safari)? Those apps run quite smooth, but the mac heatens up and the fans keep spinning 6000 rpm nearly all the time. If I try to watch movies (in VLC) the heat goes even higher and everything slows down...

P.S.: Can a dead (nearly) battery somehow affect that?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
