iTunes 11 on iMac OS X 10.5.8

iTunes 11 on iMac OS X 10.5.8

I have an iMac that is running Mac OSX 10.5.8 which is current for this iMac. I am also running iTunes version 10.6.3 which is also current fo this OS version.

The issue I am having is connecting my new iPhone 5 to iTunes. iTunes tells me I must be on iTunes 11 to support my new iPhone 5s.

iTunes 11 requires you to be at OSX 10.6.8 but my iMac OS says it's current at 10.5.8. There is no update available and I am afraid to force a new OS version on this iMac which is about 5 years old.

Will iTunes 11 run on OSX 10.5.8? Anyone tackle this issue?

You will need to upgrade the Operating System to at least Snow Leopard (10.6). Check the link below for requirements and order info.

Thank you. I just ordered Snow Leopard. Quick question, will all of my iTunes and iPhoto Libraries, playlists, etc be preserved during the upgrade? Any gotcha's I should be aware of before upgrading from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard?

You are welcome.

I have never had any data (music, photos, etc) altered by an Operating System upgrade. However, as always it is wise to have a complete backup of all important information.
