My calendars became reminder lists and I deleted them. How do I get my calendars back?

I was in the Reminders app on my iPhone 5 and empty lists named after my calendars showed up randomly (first my personal calendar, then my school one). I thought it was some strange bug so I deleted them. When it happened today with my school calendar I looked back at the calendars app and realized that somehow whatever bug (or feature?) that caused my calendars to show up in the Reminders actually caused the calendar to be deleted when I deleted the Reminder list. Is there any way Apple would be able to pull my old calendars back up and is there some way for me to aviod this in the future? I wasn't sure if it really was a bug or if it was a feature I was unaware of and misused.

Same thing happened to me today . . . any help would be appreciated! I assumed that I was deleting a reminder list my children had mistakenly made as I have never seen the list before. I use the reminder app on a daily basis and even have a list named "calendar related" so I'm frustrated that it deleted my actual main calendar on my phone. What would have caused this? If this is a bug it is terribly frustrating! I don't believe I have a current backup and I'm not sure how to check for one.

Maybe this is some new ios 7.1 bug? I never tried using iCloud calendars or reminders before today but I created a shared reminder list and a shared calendar. The shared reminder list showed up as a calendar on another device and the calendar wasn't showing up at all. Went through the Apple troubleshooting list.

On the device where the calendar was missing and the reminder list was showing as a calendar:

Forced refresh of Calendar list in Calendar app. Nothing.

Killed and restarted Calendar app. Nothing.

Turned off Calendar in the iCloud Settings, waited a few minutes, then turned it back on. Success!

Missing calendar showed up and the reminder list no longer showed up as a calendar.

Something is definitely broken here but maybe my fix will work for you. If it's the reverse (calendar showing as reminder list) just toggle the reminder switch in the iCloud settings.

Same thing has happened to me. A shared calendar suddenly appeared as a new reminders list. I deleted it and lost the entire calendar with it. BUG!!!!

Same problem. Lost an entire calendar with no way to get it back.

Come on Apple - this is obviously a bug that's been sitting around for a while. Is it in the process of being fixed? We've passed the time when losing an entire calendar without any way to get it back is an acceptable problem to have to endure.

This is definitively a bug. I have this issue since 3 years now. The apple support team worked on this using my apple ID for some months beginning of the year but could not find out why this problem occurs. From time to time an empty reminder appears in my calendars list or vice versa a calendar appears in my reminders list. I just let it there and after a while it is gone.

You can log onto iCloud.com, select settings (click on your name) and restore a calendar from there.

Actually the exact opposite just happened to me. A Reminder list just became a calendar. ***?!? Why?

And how do I take put it back on as a reminder? Calendar wont let me delete it. and its a shared list so I dont really want to delete it I just want it to be a reminder again.
