Does anyone know why Photo Stream (on my Mac, OS X Mountain Lion) needs to access:
synaptic.att.com
I use Little Snitch, which is how I discovered this. So I'm just trying to understand why Apple's Photo Stream needs access to this site?

Presumably, PhotoStream is syncing via iCloud , and att servers are being used.

Well, I am assuming something like that. What I'm wondering is why? Why is Apple (PS) talking to AT&T?
Perhaps a better question is, do they need to talk to AT&T?
I realize this is a rather obscure question to be posting here. But I was hoping someone might actually know the answer.

I don't know, don't work for Apple: but they might if sync is routed via non-Apple (or Akamai ?) servers at some times/locations; or possibly if iCloud 'knows' that a device uses or has used att service ?.
Synaptic is a service similar to Amazon Web Services (AWS), so it's likely that some iCloud edge nodes around the world are running on other people's gear... where it doesn't make sense to (yet) build a new datacenter.
I think ba91241 is right. I'm in Western Europe and I'm seeing connections to euwest.synaptic.att.com
