Q: LE 8 to LE 9

I'm currently using Logic Express 8 on my Snow Leopard iMac. My brother gave me a copy of LE 9 that he no longer uses). Is it worth updrading to LE 9? Does anyone know if it will convert (update) my existing projects? The reason I ask is that I currently share projects with my son who has LE 8 and I'm worried that if I install 9, it will render my projects unusable by version 8.

Thanks

Well worth upgrading, in my opinion.  Especially for guitar players.  A couple of major additions to LE9 were the 25 amps & cabinets in Amp Designer, along with Pedalboard & 30 stompboxes.  Another huge addition is Flex Time.

As far as I know, LE9 will not convert LE8 projects unless you save them in LE9.  You could always just make copies of the projects to be safe.

Is the LE9 that you got from your brother an upgrade or a full license?  If it's a full license I think you could install it and keep LE8 on your computer also.  It's just that you can't run both versions simultaneously.  If you choose to go this route I would suggest renaming your current Logic Express in Applications to LE8 or anything other than "Logic Express" while you install LE9.  This will ensure that the installer does not overwrite LE8, though I don't think it would anyway.  (You could also compress your LE8 and drag it to your desktop as insurance.)

Well, since I am a guitar player, I guess it's worth upgrading.

    Thanks for your help.
