iTunes produces silent tracks

iTunes v11.1.3

iPod touch v4.2.1

I have iTunes set for Sound Check (roughly equalize sound levels) and to downsample tracks to 192 kb/s when transferring to the iPod.

Some of the tracks, somewhere about 2% - 5% of them, are completely silent on the iPod. Apparently Sound Check set of the volume level to 0 for those tracks.

Is there a cure for this?
