Where is the best place to resell an 2012 iMac?

I Purchased a 21.5" iMac last January with the following specifications: 2.9 Ghz intel Quad Core i5, 16 GB ram, 1 TB Fushion Drive, etc. I ended up paying $1,800 for this computer, my first Mac. Over the last year, I have found that I just haven't used the computer as much as I would like, and think that I am more comfortable on a PC. I started thinking about selling it today and was looking around on a few sites including gazelle, cashforyourmac, and sellmymac and they are trying to offer me less than $900 for this computer.

I am stunned that after 1 year, the estimated value would be 1/2 of what it was "worth" one year ago. Do Mac's just not hold their value well or its it just hard to resell a "high end" PC like this.

Thanks!

Hi rburg86,

You have to remember that is what they are paying you for it and they are not buying it to give to their children. It is a business and they have to make a profit when they sell it on. You could try and sell it privately; so why not look up what these people are selling machines like yours for to get a guide to what you may ask. Then take off a few % because they would be giving a guarantee of sorts.

I sell all my old Mac stuff on Craigslist. I just sold a 7 year old Imac for $250 on there. What I have found is Iphones and Ipads really hold their value but it's a little harder to sell the computers on there and I would say you may have a hard time getting much more than $900 on there. People tend to try to get you down in price on computers. The other problem is you can still buy a new one for between $1300 and $1500.
