Q: Ipad not charging- bad connection?

My iPad (3rd generation) has gotten increasingly picky about charging. When I plug in the 30-pin connector, it will often show that is charging for a second or two- then it says "not charging" and I get a message that "charging is not supported with this accessory."

I have tried several adaptors (both 10W and 12W) and multiple cords, including 2 that we just got from Apple a couple months ago. Yesterday I picked up a new cord (non-Apple, but it seemed to have a good secure connection) and it worked last night.  Today it's behaving the same as the others.

These cords and adapters do work with my husband's iPad 2, so I am increasingly convinced that there's a problem with the iPad itself.

I have done numerous hard resets, which seems to have no effect.

Is there a way to tell if it's the iPad and not the charging device that is the problem? And if it is, what are my options for getting it fixed?

Thanks for any help....
