I have been trying since ios7 came out to update my phone and eveyrone time it completes the download it says it fails. Now my phone is very slow as all the apps are meant for the ios7 while i'm still on ios6. Any idea how I can solve this? I have the iphone5.

I have read that article before and have tried updating through air and iTunes. I have more than enough room and all my apps are updated. When downloading is complete it says the file is corrupted error:1403
Are you using Windows?
Yes I am, I'm on an HP. Could this be the reason?
Do you have the latest iTunes 11.1.4?
Switch anti-virus & firewall off before you update.

I appreciate the response but I have tried that numerous times, I have also tried different usb cables.
How's your internet speed?
By any chance your internet connection times out during the download of iOS which maybe resulting in fact a corrupted firmware bundle? Are you downloading iOS through iTunes or from a direct link?
My internet speed fluctuates but I have tried it in different locations and it completes the download then says it was corrupted. I also am downloading from iTunes, I didn't know it was possible to do from a direct link.
It sounds like your downloads were interrupted thus resulting a corrupted file.
You can try to download using your web browser from this direct link for iOS 7.0.4 iPhone 5 GSM - 11B554a OR iPhone 5 GSM+CDMA - 11B554a. (Identify your iPhone 5 model from this link or from the image below and download the appropriate file) Once the download completes can you check the file size to ensure the download was not interrupted, actual file size should be 1.32GB.
You can restore your phone using iTunes. Press Option on your keyboard and click Restore simultaneously, it will pop up a window to locate the downloaded firmware. Select the firmare and let the phone restore.

So if I downloaded it and it was only 1.2GB then something is wrong?
Correct.
Also, can you check the file size of the firmware iTunes has downloaded, the corrupted ones. You can locate that by selecting Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/ as the path. That way we know for sure those files were corrupted.
