Creating a Printable Booklet in iBooks Author

Hello:

I've recently created an iBook and would like to convert it to a printable booklet format (1/2 page). Are there any ways to do this?

Many thanks.

iBooks Author offers the facility to export your book as a PDF...which you can print off and you can export text only.

Unless you can use these two options, there is no way to get a printable version....unless some enterprising person has developed a way, in which case there are thousands on here waiting for the opportunity.

Hi vinny,

Quick couple of follow-up questions to your reply to LostSon's post, as I was hoping to print a hard copy of a book as well:

1. are you saying that you can only export text to pdf (and not accompanying photos, etc.)? That would be a deal-breaker for me, as my planned book will include lots of photographs, drawings, sketches, etc.

2. if iBooks Author does, in fact, only export text to pdf (for printing), then what other options do I have?

I love the idea of using templates as nice as the iBooks Author templates, but if they won't do me any good, what else can I do?

Thanks for any advice,

Malcolm

Printing a copy of your book as you see it in iBooks Author is ( unless something changed in the last few days/weeks) is not possible.

1. You you can export a PDF, it will contain all your text and images - your content is reformatted and may change a little. Best test is to export a PDF now and check the results. Open teh PDF option and you wil see,
"Create a PDF version of your book that can be viewed and edited with a PDF application or viewed in a web browser". You can also select teh quaility... better the quality, the bgiger the file.

2. You can export as text only: Select the option and you wil see, "Create a plain text version of your bppk that can be viewed and edited with a text editor. Text formatting will be removed".

Not knowing what your plan is for making up a book or how you propose to use it, its not easy to advice your options.

Apple created the softweare and allow free use on condition that if you want payment.. you need to achive that with a paid books account and sell on the iBooks store. Apple also allow you to make books and distribute as you will - but it must be free of charge. Risking the "Apple will never know if I sell it on my website" is a risk, the penalty of Apple getting to know.. is said to be a life ban, although I cannot find any proof on the Apple site.

There are other online publishers and agregators who can get your book published - BUT i dont know any that can convert a books from .iBA to .epub or whatever.

Hi again,

I would never hope to "sell" my book (if I get around to writing it!). It's mostly for fun... if it were, in fact, to work out, the most I'd do is print some copies to give to family and a few friends. Basically, my plan is for a glorified cookbook of my favorite recipes, with commentary/response/reaction thrown in. The "reviews" that I plan to include are completely made up—tongue-in-cheek style.

Anyway, from what I gather from your posts, iBooks Author would allow me creat a very professional-looking cookbook... but I'll have to forget about making any hard copies. iBooks Author is for electronic books only.

Thanks for your help with this,

Malcolm
