Wifi speed problem extending range of wireless

Hello,

I was having problems in WiFi connection due to the range of my Time Capsule, so I bought an Airport Express (last generation).

I am using this AirPort, in WiFi mode, to extend the range of wireless and I used the standard setup explained in Apple Suport, adding the AirPort Express in the Airport Utility (Add a new Wifi).

All seems ok, but the Wifi speed near the AirportExpress is really to slow. Testing it with some software the upload speed is much better than download speed, what is really strange for me.

Testing speed near the WiFi Base (Time Capsule) its very good.

My ISP proveider gives me a 100 Mbts speed by cable, and my connections are:

ISP Router -> Ethernet Cable to Time Capsule -> Wifi connection to AirPort Express

Time Capsule is configured to create a new wireless network, and I have shutted down the wifi on ISP Router.

Speed tests examples on same minute (or close):

- Wifi near Time Capsule: Download 10,96 Mbts / Upload 8,27 Mbts

- Wifi near Airport Express: Download 0,48 Mbts / Upload 1,95Mbts

Speed tests has been made in OoklaSpeedTest App with iPhone 5S, realy close to Time Capsule and Airport Express.

Connectin for example to Youtube I really see the speed diference, so its not a problem on the software used to test.

What should I change?

What is the problem?

On the other hand, i tested a different connection:

ISP Router -> Ethernet Cable to Time Capsule

ISP Router -> Ethernet Cable to AirPort Express

However like this, its impossible to expand the wireless network, What I understand is that the AirPort Express should allways been connectd directlu to a port in the time capsule. Is this true?

I so, and if I configure AirPort Express to create a new WiFi network and give it the same name and password as the Time Capsule WiFi network, will it works as a single network?

Best regards

Tiago

The key for getting the maximum bandwidth from your extended Wi-Fi network is proper placement of the base stations. Check out the following AirPort User Tip. Please post back your results.

Thanks a lot for the quick answer

I am a little confused, so I copy the information of method 2 (OS X 10.9.1).

My network is called "Casa-Cabo". Why di I have so many networks with this name?

The en1 has a good SNR. Is it confliting with the other networks with same name?

Gratefull for some more help on my issue,

Best regards

Tiago

Hi, again

I started all over doing an hard restart to Airport and Time Capusle.

And I have inverted the order: Airport is now de base and Time Capsule the extender. I have done this because Airport is near de ISP router and I have a cable network from there to the Time Capsule location.

I started configuring the Airport and creating a new wirelless network.

Than I connect Time Capsule to expand the same network. If I do it by wirless I have a fair connection but speed seems bad.

Trying to connect the cable, from Airport port to Time Capsule port the Internet comes instable, sometimes works other don't. So I am trying to maintain wifi connection between the Airport and Time Capsule.

Going to System Profile, I found now:

Software Versions:

CoreWLAN:4.0 (400.45.1)

Wake On Wireless:Supported

AirDrop:Supported

Status:Off

Problems:

1) Wifi connection stills slow (now in Time Capsule)

2) Why cant I connect the two machines by cable? What is going wrong when I do that?

Thanks for any help on this configuration or in the other I posted before.

Regards

Tiago

The Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) values for each of your base stations look good. SNR (dB) = Signal (dBm) - Noise (dBm). For all cases this value was above 40 dB.

The reason you are seeing four Casa-Cabo listings is that each of your AirPorts has two Wi-Fi radios. With two AirPort that gives you four Wi-Fi networks operating simultaneously.
