Please help, my mouse will not connect to my iMac! Tried restarting. Just says: there isn't a wireless or trackpad connected

If for some reason you cannot figure out the keyboard commands to follow the steps then simply plug in any usb mouse and then begin.
Thanks. I'm really not having much luck at all. Don't have a spare mouse and am
not very savvy! Sitting here with a list of keyboard shortcuts getting more frustrated! Decided to try and call Apple but they need the serial number and can't figure how to find that without the mouse either :-(
Go to your local Office Supply store and buy yourself a backup USB Mouse and Keyboard, you can generally find very inexpensive ones for less than $20. If you still need help then you will need to take your machine into your local Apple Store or AASP and ask a Genius to give you a hand.
