I have just dropped my iPad mini into a relatively small puddle in the bath....don't ask.
I removed it straight away, turned it off and threw in in a box with raw rice. I'm going to leave it for 24 hours or so.
When it emerges from it's grainy pit is there an LCI on the mini which I will be able to see?

I wouldn't know if the MM has a liquid contact indicator however if it does and any warranty work is required and if there is a a sensor it's Apple's discretion if they will cover a repair or not. If the machine is damaged by liquid it would be classifies as owner abuse therefore simply not covered.
The moisture sensor is in the connector, but you have to leave it in rice to dryout for a week, not 24 hours.
And then you run the risk of rice dust in the connector port, so you take your chances with that also.
At any rate, do not pug it in or turn it on for at least a week.
I had seen a ref somewhere to a sensor in there, but cannot find the ref now. It would be a surprise not to have a sensor somewhere internal.
I still am not a fan of he rice trick but a lot of user like to try it.
I save those silica packets every chance I get -you find them in packages of pills, in purses or leather clothing, etc. But you would need a whole lot of them to bury your iPad in them. Or do you think just drying off the iPad and leaving it with a silica packet near all obvious openings is sufficient?
If you noticed I said "new" silica gel packets. Old ones do you no good for a wet electronic device. You wouldn't need more than two or three in a baggie with an iPhone, or 5 or so with an iPad Mini. They don't have to be near any openings.
The sensors are only internal and are quite hard to trigger if it was just little water. If you were to bring it to an Apple Store for any kind of replacement you can dispute it and they will most likely fix it anyway.
This is better than rice; no dust.
Put iPad and dessicator in a plastic bag or container to remove moisture.
I believe the only such sensors are internal.
Are you sure that is correct for the iPad mini which has a lightning connector?
I didn't say there wasn't a sensor I just said it is internal only.
I prefer new silica gel packets but most people don't have these lying around in their house. The rice dust can be easily removed.
