My desktop is about 10 years old and does not work any longer. How do i properly dispose of it?
Hello, it might be a good idea to destroy the Hard Drive first, but see if there are any places like this where you live...

Other than your data on an internal hard disk drive, the ten year old Mac
may still be useful to someone who knows how to fix them; some people
restore & donate these to persons who don't want the newest/latest Mac.
A local Apple User group may be helpful in determining how to find a re-user.
And someone there may be able to help you remove the hard drive or its data.
Places such as these take them and may sell working units

I totally agree with K Schaffer: reuse always trumps recycle when possible!
