Should I install OS X on iMac G3

Your computer will run Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4 effectively; you should keep at least 1GB of space free on the hard disk at all times, and more if you will be using several applications simultaneously or processor-intensive ones. You should also install this firmware update on your machine before you even insert the Mac OS X installation disk.

I have a G4 400MHz w/512MB RAM desktop operating on Panther & a G3 400Mhz FW Pismo w/384MB RAM laptop operating on Tiger. Both operate adequately. Both run slower than newer, faster Macs. More RAM will increase operating speed.

Some advantages of OS X are more modern browsers that work on most web pages, view the latest Flash videos & .wmv files. New apps such as iMovie, etc.

If you keep OS 9.2.2 & operate in "Classic" in addition to OS X, you will be able to use most of your current apps.

I have OS 9.2.2 & OS X on separate partitions, so I can boot in either OS.

Unless you perform an Erase & Install of Mac OS X, all of your files will still be on the drive. If you have AppleWorks 6 installed, run this updater before installing Mac OS X. If you are using AppleWorks 5, you will need to run it in Classic.

I have Panther & 9.2.2 on the first 8GB of an iMac 333 with 288MB of ram and it pppppuuurrrrrssssss. No problem what-so-ever.
