I'm also getting this message.  And when I try to open iTunes now I get "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the progran to fix this problem."  I tried to reinstall the program and just get the Service "Apple Mobile Device" message.

    Dluvable-

ok I found a fix for this on apples support site.  Try uninstalling the program and reinstalling.

Go to: Start / Control Panel / Uninstall a program

Uninstall the following programs in the following order(very important to do it in this order):

    iTunes

    Apple software update

    Apple Mobile Device Support

    Bonjour

    Apple Application Support

    Restart your computer

Go online to the iTunes download site and download the version you need.

It worked for me I hope it works for you.
