Q: How can I get recovery disc for Mac Os x 10.4.11

I have downloaded recovery application from Mac web site and to my surprised can not be use in this system because is for Mac OS X Maverick or later. I have tried to get recovery for older version and is not available. I do not have the original disc to set the computer to manufacture original settings so I can be the main administrator for this computer, in other words without resetting this computer I will never get the administrator password erase so I could be the main one in the system. It looks like  I need to get this recovery disc somehow or just take the computer to a repair shop to do it for me so I can upgrade many applications where they need to be OR somehow try to create a total new Network ( VPN account) so I can do all I want in this system. If you know where I could get this recovery disc please let me know because this solution is the easiest one.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Which exact iBook model is it?

You can choose from this list:

    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html

Which version of the operating system is it running now? (Mac OS X 10.4.11, I presume?)

    How much RAM is installed?

What kind of optical drive does it have? (CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, Combo, or SuperDrive?)

Hello Ronda and thank you for your help. I have iBook G4 power book 6,5 and the operating system is as I mentioned before Mac OS X 10.4.11. The RAM is 768 MB, the optical drive is a combo read it all but has some issues. Before I upgrade anything I have to get rid off of the administrator ID and password because I can not upgrade nothing if I don't know it. I need to get to a recovery disc, Do you think I can get one out there somewhere?

Which recovery disc (or discs) you need depends on the exact model of iBook you have. According to what you have posted, it could be any of these models:

    20140204iBookHelp.png

Go back to the link I posted above  http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html and check out the full specifications of each of these models.

Find more information about your computer in the System Profiler. (Finder > Applications > Utilities > System Profiler.)

When we can figure out which exact model you have, then we can look for the system-specific discs you need. If you're having problems with your optical drive, though, the discs may not help.

If all you need to do is reset the password, a full commercial version of Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) may do what you need.

Thank you for the information and before I proceed I will give you the exact serial number:

4H5290VTS87. There is no model number as you mentioned before. I copy pasted what this computer shows

on "About this mac". I believe is the early version of ibook 2004 and according to a book I read I can use any

recovery disc from early version or late version of ibookG4 from 2004 to 2005.

    Hardware Overview:

    Machine Name:          iBook G4

      Machine Model:          PowerBook6,5

      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (1.1)

      Number Of CPUs:          1

According to Mactracker.ca database, your computer would be considered

a Late 2004 iBook G4, and there were four Order numbers among two

build series in this 'A1055' version model, between 12" and 14" displays.

    SOFTWARE

    Original OS    Mac OS X 10.3.5 (7P216)

    Later OS    Mac OS X 10.3.7 (7T52) or 10.4 (8A428)

Maximum OS    Mac OS X 10.5.8

Hardware Test    AHT (iBook) 2.2.1, 2.5

Given the serial number you could enter it in a search box on this page &

click the go button to see more information. Base OS X: Panther grey disc.

•identify your mac - lookup by apple serial no. or model:

    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

Some of the results vary according to the database build year model specs.

(By SN from chipmunk site, says your iBook is an A1054 version, though...)

    Machine Model: PowerBook6,5

    Family name: A1054

    Model Number: M9623

    Group1: iBook

    Group2: G4

    Generation: 3

    CPU speed: 1.2GHz

    Screen size: 12 inch

    Screen resolution: 1024x768 pixels

    Colour: White

    Production year: 2005

    Production week: 29  (July)

Production number: 1013 (within this week)

    Model introduced: 2004

    Memory - flavour: DDR1-S-266

Memory - number of slots: 1

    Factory: 4H (China)

External link: Repair guide by iFixit

Or see info by serial number here to compare results, & narrow field...

    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php

There is a slight conflict of identity among three sources.

Two say it was made in week 29 July 2005. Each shows

it as a different Family (A1054 vs A1055)

    Hopefully this helps.

    Good luck & happy computing!

    Hello Rhonda

I am back and with a good news I was able to get rid off the original Administrator ID so I am the new Administrator in this computer and be able to update some applications such as Safari browser. I was able to get the Installation disc MacOS X Tiger to reset completely the computer to where it needed to be. Also I have ibookG4 disc 1 and 2 and the last one it says additional software and apple hardware test so I am wondering if I should install those disc too or leave it alone. I have Safari Version 3.0.4 (523.12) and I tried to download a newer version of Safari to 4.1.3  and I was not allow because it says I need to get a security update 2009-005 then I went to apple web site and they do not provide that to download and I do not know why. All I want is update Safari so I can check better e-mails and enjoy other sites.. If you have information of Where to go to get those security updates 2009-005 and if you think I should continue with the other discs please let me know, perhaps these discs provide those security codes and necessary drives to make this computer work descent.
