Windows close on desktop when a new one opens

HI, Just got a new iMAC. This morning, all of a sudden, I have trouble keeping more than one window open on the desktop at the same time. For example, I may have the iTunes window on the desktop, but when I click the dock to open Safari the iTunes window suddenly dissapears. Seems like I can only have one window on the desktop. Sometimes the finder window stays when I open an app, sometimes not. It's driving me crazy. I've restarted the Mac several times with no change. Any ideas would be welcome...

Therre is a mode available in OS X called Single-Application Mode. It allows multiple apps to be running, but will only display a single app window at a time. If you open another app, the current app window closes, so it kinda sound like the mode you are running in.

You can fix the problem with the following guide:

Please update your profile to indicate the correct version of OS X installed, I am sure you do not have 10.0.x installed on your iMac. If you don't know how please click https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3602

As for your issue, you have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support, I would suggest giving them a call and I am sure they can walk you through the steps you need. To locate the phone number in your country please click http://support.apple.com/kb/he57

Good luck.
