Q: Silencing the iPad

My 4th generation iPad burbles and dings all day long, indicating something — a new eMail received, a Calendar event, something or other. It used to be perfectly silent which is the way I like it. But something changed. I tried going into the Settings app, to General, Settings, then reset Settings. That simply changed the wallpaper and took away the security of keying in the iPad's password. The iPad continues to bing, ding and burble.

 

How do I fix this?

 

Appreciated.

  2. Settings > General > USE SIDE SWITCH TO: > Select Mute then mute the iPad by using the side swtich located by the volume controls

    Two points that I want to make to you....

     

    When you reset all settings, you actually reset everything in the settings app back to factory default settings and as you progress along using other apps, if something doesn't work like it used to - such as needing access to photos or other privacy settings - you will have to allow all of those things again. If Siri is no longer working, you have to enable her again. Things like that could come up and I just want you to be aware of them.

     

    The sounds that the iPad makes can be useful in some instances.... Email notifications and other notifications can come in handy. Those can be turned off in your settings as desired so you can leave some of the ones that might be helpful to you turned on.

    Let me clarify myself. I find it annoying when someone's iPhone signals an incoming call while in an audience in a theatre. That's impolite. Equally when I'm in the midst of a lecture and I have my iPad with me and it's sound asleep. The sounds are useful when the iPad is actively being used, and a distraction when the iPad is asleep. There must surely be a way, other than shutting the iPad completely off, for automatically turning off all sounds when the iPad is asleep. Nothing in the Settings app jumps out at me for setting that.

     

    And where precisely do I re-activate the sign in process? Nothing in the Settings app jumps out at me for that feature. When I activated iOS 7 that feature didn't appear to be optional. I actually like the security of having to sign in to access the iPad.

    That's fine and your point is well taken now that I know the specifics of what you are trying to accomplish. You didn't state all of that in your post, so I was just trying to make sure that you weren't being short sighted, that's all.

     

    Axeman told you how to turn the sounds off already, I was just adding my own opinion to the situation. Did you look at Do Not Disturb? Did you try muting system sounds? That will silence all notifications.
