USB powered/unpowered on MAC in Sleep Mode?

Hi and tnxs for reading.

I am aware there are a lot of discussions about this but this is particular.

I have a Macbook Pro with Mavericks.

When in sleep mode, I can use Macbook Pro USB to charge any USB devices like bands, Lipo batt, but cannot charge my iOS devices... why?

Many tnxs.

Cheers.

Hi Jet787,

Welcome to the Support Communities!

The article below explains how to charge your iOS device. I can't explain the technical reason as to why you can't charge while your computer is in sleep mode. But the article does confirm that is the case.

iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1476

  • For the quickest charge, connect the device to a power outlet using the USB cable that came with the device and an Apple USB power adapter.
  • Connect the device directly to a USB port on your computer (not an external keyboard) using the USB cable that came with the device. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode; otherwise, the battery may drain instead of charge.

Cheers,

Hi judysings,

This answer does not help. I have a similar thing happening that Jet787 has...but... prior to installing Mavericks the USB ports would have power available for charging devices, even when my Macbookpro was asleep. This was a very important functionality. Now, after installing Mavericks, when the laptop goes to sleep the USB power turns off. Can I please change this behavior back to the way it was before upgrading to Mavaericks?
