Music on the Cloud but not on my nano

I typically purchase my music via iTunes from my iPhone. The music that I purchase does show up on my Mac as via the cloud. I want to download the purchased music that is on the cloud to my nano via syncing with the Mac, but I can't figure out how and all the searching I've done,hasn't yielded any good advice.
