I just connected my Thunderbolt-HDMI adapter and the computer screen will not display on the tv. The TV has a picture of some nice stars on it but the image that's on my monitor will not display. Do I have to go into some menu to activate the Thunderbolt display?

It sounds as if things are currently set in an 'Extended desktop' arrangement, where the secondary display will provide additional workspace. The following article provides further information about using another display with your Mac.
