I have an ipad air and want to sync my PC desktop outlook 2007 calendar. Itunes worked a few days but now won't sync

I have recently purchased an ipad air and have a PC with windows 7 and outlook 2007. A few days ago I was able to sync my outlook calendar and contacts to my ipad through itunes. Today I got a message in the itunes, devices, info page saying that contacts and calendars are synced through the cloud (we have 2 ipads that are synced through the cloud for contacts and calendars). It pretends to sync but nothing is transferred. the info page gives no option to sync with outlook. Any ideas what just happened?
