I realised my name was wrong when I signed in and I have managed to change it on my account but it has not reflect on my correspondences, does this take time or is something wrong?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you mean in mail, check your name is correct at settings > iCloud > Account > Mail > Name. If it is try turning mail syncing off and then on again.
