I have a iMac 21.5 inch mid 2010 model iMac 11,2 updated to Mavericks
I'm getting the grey screen, I've tried an erase and re-install and PRAM reset but it still sticks on the grey screen
Safe mode boot works fine.
I don't have the install disc and I don't think the holding D key works on this machine, is there another way to run the hardware test?
or
Is there anything else I can try to fix this?

You can get an original install DVD for your Mac by calling AppleCare and providing them with the serial number and a credit card, I believe it's in the neighborhood of $20.

I had already tried all of the suggestions from that link and in safe boot it works fine. I will try to get the install DVD.
Could I just ask, does this look like it might be the GPU? as I said above, it works 100% fine in safe boot and I haven't seen any glitches on the graphics.
If you've tested with a clean installation -- no third-party software added -- then the problem is caused by a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store for service.

I did a reflow and reassembled, AND IT NOW WORKS 100% 😀
It wasn't quite as easy as it sounds, I am a PC engineer but I have very little experience in diagnosing iMac problems.
