Q: air play and i pad not working after upgrade to ios7

After reading all the stuff on the forum about what to do to resolve the air play problems ios 7 has caused, ie reboot router, reboot apple tv re boot ipad, all done, do this do that i still cant use air play to my tv all it wants to do is stream my content and use my data allowance is there a reason at apple why i cant air play apart from no icon.  am i missing a trick, or have apple decided to shag every one up so they buy new.

another side question should air play work via ethernet if i have it connected

thanks

AirPlay works over wifi, ethernet or mixed networks. There is nothing in iOS 7 stopping AirPlay working, it's either a network or network settings issue. I'm not sure exactly what you've tried, but...

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    6. Restart your mobile device.

Non entirely sorted yet but a step closer. After talking to my internet provider Kingston communications they informed me that the UDP port 5353 was not open, this has now been rectified. After a resetting my apple tv and singning in turning on sharing  blah blah, I now have the icon on mine and my families I pads but streaming is an issue.  it goes to the program and freezes but wont play/stream.

I'd read through the troubleshooting links again, see if there is anything you missed.

You may want to check with your router provider which is the firmware that is currently recommended, it may be there is something newer since I wrote that.

Hi Winston I checked on my Mac  using diagnostic it came up with maybe a foreign router in the area over use of the router, move it closer. Going to buy a more modern one dual band any ideas?

Over here the ISP tends to provide the router for us, so I haven't tried enough to be able to give any recommendations.

Thanks for your help Winston, but i have decided to bite the bullet and get a more up todate router with dual.  Kingston communications here in Hull have tried to flash my router with upto date patch and failed then recommended I get a newer one. Give it a try and rport back my experiences

    Thanks again

well bugger me Winston all week been messed around by my router with not been able to get on the air play or the net in general, igot so fed up I thought today try my old net gear router which went west over Xmas, works like a dream now Airplay and every thing brilliant.

So bottom line is after talking to Apple support and reading your advice and following it advice that helped with my internet provider too the one big thing is never use a Thompson mood  router as they are not upto the job.

Apple support said to me that out of all the phone calls they get nearly all can be resolved by talking to your provider, it may be a port which is not open for the streaming causing it not to work.  Or a dodgy router like my thomson.

Good luck every one who read this I hope it will be of some help to every one who has issues. At the time of writing this thread had been read over 440 times. Still lots of frustrated people looking for a solution, hope you find it. Bet its rarely the Apple TV fault. :)

Another useful thing to do is check that "wireless isolation" is switched OFF on the wireless router. Otherwise the devices will not talk to each other even when connected on the same network. Log into your router via its IP address eg 192.168.0.1 etc. Ensure wireless isolation is OFF in the wireless settings menu.

    My Airplay returned!
