Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are the steps I would recommend going through as they should resolve the issue.

Apr 15, 2014 3:32 AM in response to Darrenh68by DuskhHarder,Same here! I cannot even downgrade to another version of iTunes…Same error pops up.

Apr 15, 2014 3:54 AM in response to DuskhHarderby Darrenh68,Sorry to hear that. I tried my IT department at work who still couldn't solve it.
Much to my dismay due to the lack of a solution I have now had to sell my iphone and switch to an Xperia Z1 on android.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Regards
Darren.

Nov 4, 2014 10:16 AM in response to jason269by Butwhyowhy2,Like many others I have been reading about online I am having the same error. I tried the fix listed above and simply wasted 30 minutes of my time. I scheduled a time for Apple to call and help me through this and their solution was for me to call Microsoft for some reason?!! iTunes made me upgrade then stopped working - I really don't see how this is a Microsoft problem??
Like Darren if a solution is not found quickly I will also have to sell my phone as the only way to get videos and music on my phone is through the software that you made me upgrade, broke and won't help me fix.

Nov 17, 2014 2:39 AM in response to cmourulloby turingtest2,It may be that you need to repair the Windows Installer Service before reinstalling iTunes.
See http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2006/07/20/673408.aspx
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

The steps that I followed (several times) are:
1. Uninstall (in this orden)
- iTunes
- Apple Software Update
- Apple Mobile Device Support
- Bonjour
- Apple Application Support
2. Restart the computer
3. Try to delete (but not exist)
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
- C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod
- C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
4. Run this command in the windows console (cmd)
- Run %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister
- Run %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister
- Run %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver
- Run %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver
5. Restart the computer
6. Install iTunes

Nov 19, 2014 1:26 PM in response to turingtest2by cmourullo,No, any problem. Only when I try to open iTunes after the installation.

Nov 19, 2014 1:45 PM in response to cmourulloby turingtest2,Hmm, locate the iTunes entry in your start menu, right-click on it and click Properties. On the Compatibility tab check the Run this program as an administrator box. Does iTunes open normally now? If so you should be able to remove that check box and have it continue to run normally.
