For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I know Apple/iTunes will probably take this down cause they get butt hurt, but I suggest that they dont make any more iPhones or any more updates for iTunes because it is garbage now. Same with all of their products. The batteries for the new phones are more garbage than the iPhone 4 batteries, which werent garbage at all. But here I am rambling on, my issue is I went to update iTunes and it didnt "install correctly", which it did, and now every time I reinstall iTunes it gives me the option to open it up when its done, then I get the garbage message "iTunes not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 5)" So long to all my music which is now regrettably lost because itunes corrupted my phone

Like many others I have been reading about online I am having the same error. I tried the fix listed above and simply wasted 30 minutes of my time. I scheduled a time for Apple to call and help me through this and their solution was for me to call Microsoft for some reason?!! iTunes made me upgrade then stopped working - I really don't see how this is a Microsoft problem??

Like Darren if a solution is not found quickly I will also have to sell my phone as the only way to get videos and music on my phone is through the software that you made me upgrade, broke and won't help me fix.

It may be that you need to repair the Windows Installer Service before reinstalling iTunes.

turingtest2 thanks for the response but I continuing with the same problem.

The steps that I followed (several times) are:

1. Uninstall (in this orden)

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

2. Restart the computer

3. Try to delete (but not exist)

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

4. Run this command in the windows console (cmd)

  • Run %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister
  • Run %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister
  • Run %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver
  • Run %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver

5. Restart the computer

6. Install iTunes

Any other solution?
