MMS doesn't work

Bought a used Iphone from a friend, couldn't afford a new one, and wanted to try Iphone....so easy to use! BUT......I cannot text anybody a picture or a video......MMS is turned on..........anybody help? Thanks!

I tried it with cellular data on (versus wifi) and still nothing. The service I am using is Airvoice.......upon doing a search of FAQ on their website this is what is says:

"Many customers choose to use their iPhones with our service. To use an iPhone with our service, you will need a GSM iPhone that is Unlocked.
Talk, Text and Web are supported features with our service when using an iPhone. MMS is NOT a guaranteed feature when using an iPhone with Airvoice. If you would like to use this feature, the device will need to be fully UNLOCKED. Airvoice still does not guarantee that MMS will work with an iPhone even if the device is unlocked."

I guess I will have to do something to this iphone to make it work...........like get it unlocked......?? I thought it WAS unlocked because it was an ATT phone and the Airvoice sim card works in it.......but obviously it's not?

Yes it is unlocked or you wouldn't be able to use it with another carrier's SIM card.


SMS/MMS are exchanged via a carrier's cellular network only - wi-fi has nothing whatsoever to do with exchanging text messages - SMS/MMS. MMS with an iPhone requires cellular data.


I guess my reading comprehension is different from yours.

The carrier you are using does not guarantee being able to exchange MMS with an iPhone.


Since the iPhone was sold as carrier locked with ATT, it was "fully" unlocked by ATT and Apple or you wouldn't be able to use it with this non-supported carrier.

I have found that many people have this same issue with different carriers......this is what someone has said:


"About 1/4 of my emails are basically the same. How come my MMS is not working, or they can't send picture messages. The reason for this?

Apple gives no way of setting MMS settings via any automated process and if you cannot edit them by hand then there is no way of setting the MMS settings. APN data settings are 100% possible to do via automated process."

I have read several stories of people in the same predicament as me...........so I guess I am thinking it's not an 'Airvoice' problem?

Your carrier is clueless.


As already provided, this is carrier dependent with the iPhone.


The APN settings can be changed/adjusted with my iPhone 5 activated with T-Mobile. The APN settings cannot be changed/adjusted with my iPhone 5S activated with ATT.


Your low-budget carrier spells this out for you which cannot be made any clearer.
