Auto action failing

I am just looking at a project where two menus are on screen, arranged in columns, menu one (root) has five buttons when you select on of these it brings up the second menu, showing both on screen at the same time, when you press the left arrow key on the root menu the previous menu is meant to disappear leaving only the root. This works like a charm on the simulator, however when it comes to building the disk the auto action is not functioning tuning a simple menu system into a mess. any ideas, is this a bug/common problem?
