I have a Western Digital (WD) MyBook Essential external hard drive that I have backed up my imac using Time Machine. After 4 hours, it did a full backup to it. Now, it will not keep things up to date, and keeps erring out with "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder." Any ideas? Apple troubleshooting says to restart the computer, but that didn't seem to help.
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
Reboot the computer and the WD disk.
Do a verify of the disk and the backup.. See A5 here.

Also check the error messages and there reasons in the C section.
eg C10 for your error.
TM is very prone to issues since Mavericks.. I would seriously look at using CCC or another backup software until Apple get their OS sorted out.
Sadly the only way I got it to work after trying everything on the boards erase the external drive and start again. 😟

That is why I think CCC is a really good choice for now.. until Apple get their act together. It is reasonable price and you can use it on multiple computers in your home.
