Ram upgrade for my MacBook Pro 15", Late 2008

I'm wanting to upgrade the RAM on my MBP 15", Late 2008 ... The specs read that the max upgrade is 4gb which would call for 2 x2gb sticks of ram. I have read in other posts that people are upgrading to 8gb (2x4gb sticks)... I don't want to ruin my computer but I would like to upgrade to the 8gb. My question is will it cause the computer to malfunction? Will it overheat or what are the main problems of upgrading. Thanks for all your help.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Maximum Memory8.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

This will not overheat the computer nor cause any malfunctions. But you should understand that the computer was certified only for 4 GBs. Apple does not support installing 8 GBs, but third-party experimenters have found that you can install 8 GBs successfully. Be sure to get matched pairs from a reliable vendor like:
