Unable to purchase correct Windows 8 or 7 ISO image from Microsoft for Boot Camp instalation

I’m trying to install Windows on my MacBook Pro Retina using Boot Camp. I cannot find a Windows ISO image to purchase and download from Microsoft (MS).

MS no longer sells win 7 and for Windows 8 they told me I needed the 64-bit System Builder Version of Windows 8, which they don’t sell. Elsewhere, the 64-bit System Builder Version of Windows 8 no longer seems to be available.

Any suggestions or successful (recent) experiences getting the Win ISO image online? Has anyone had success installing the full commercial Win 8 ISO image after purchasing from Microsoft, rather than the System Builder version that seemed to be available a month ago, but is no longer available?

Thank you in advance for suggestions and recommendations.

Thank you, tug!

It makes me extremely nervous to download software from a site other-than-Microsoft.

I understand that the download is an evaluation copy that expires after 90 days. What happens after that? Are you using it and, if so, have you addressed the 90 day expiration issue yet, or have planned what to do?

Again, many thanks for the link.

Unfortunately, the Win 8 ISO image is no longer able to be downloaded at http://www.soft-zilla.com/2013/01/windows-8-iso-download.htmlhttp://. Clicking on the 32-bit and 64-bit links send one to the MSDN Subscriptions page where the choices are either a paid subscription or enrollment as a Microsoft Partner Network (requires a signed legal agreement with Microsoft).

I was able to download Win 8 from the site that you gave me, tug! Thanks.

There were 2 files in the download:

(1) en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso

(2) X17-59186.iso

The second one, that is, (2) is the one that Boot Camp accepts.

I openned Boot Camp and did the following:

(a) checked first box saying "Create a Win 7 or later install disk.

(b) checked third box that says, "Install Win 7 or later version"

When I checked (a), Boot Camp automatically checked the second box that says, "download the latest support software from Apple". The box is greyed out, so there is no opportunity to uncheck it.

When I pressed 'Continue' and after partitioning the hard disk preference, Boot Camp gives me a message saying, "Download Windows 7 Support Software. This Mac only supports Windows 7. Do you want to continue?"

I clicked 'cancel' and downloaded the "Boot Campo Support Software 5.0.5033" and extracted the zip file into the root drive of my USB. In fact, I put the extracted files in the same USB that has the two "iso" files for Win 8 that I downloaded from your recommended site.

I ran Boot Camp again (still the secon box greyed out so I had to download the latest support software from Apple" and of course I get the same message saying the it will "Download Windows 7 Support Software."

I think that in one of the many iterrations that I did, I did specify contineu, but I beleve that I received an error message.

I know that the downloaded support software 5.0.5033 has to be run and installed in the Windows environment. But I can't get past the Win 8 installation process in Boot Camp. So I haven't been able to reach the "INstall Windows" level indicated in the Apple Boot Camp installation instructions.

Any suggestions? I can almost taste success, but am not there yet.

hi mont, the second one will be greyed out that is normal, if you tick the first box then the second one will automatically d/load the software.

let it download win 7 software (win 8 is not specifically supported yet in bootcamp) but everything will go to plan, dont worry. unless your mac gives out a warning of some sort then it is working.

if it was me i would start again from the three choice screen and tick all boxes and let it run.

I started again from the three-choice screen and tick all boxes and let it run.

I then accepted to download win 7 software and received the following message: "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."

When I clicked OK, Boot Camp returned be to the first screen with the three-choice screen.

Not sure how to proceed now. Any suggestions?
