Administrator removal

I have recently purchased an ibook G4 from ebay and it has an administrator and the password for this has been lost. Can I remove this administrator without the system disk.

iBook, Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It could very well be a stolen computer. Check with Apple Support to make sure it hasn't been reported as stolen.

As for getting the administrator password reset, you really do need the discs. AppleCare may have the appropriate original discs as well for a nominal cost.

Unless you want to run software from pre-2001, your best bet is check that the minimum 867 Mhz and 512MB of RAM is on board, and you can buy 10.5 retail, and upgrade to 10.5.8.

If you want to run pre-2001 software, you'll need to track down the original discs based on the age of the machine:
