My iPhone 4S won't connect to my car via USB cable. Tried someone else's phone and no problem. Both phones have the same software status (latest) but mine comes up with device error on the car's screen. Car is Range Rover Sport. Any suggestions?

Describing the error might help.
Plug phone into land rovers iPod cable and the cars audio screen comes up with device error instead of loading playlists etc. tried another iPhone 4S and came up straight away with songs and started playing music.
Check to make sure that the 30-pin connector area is clear of any lint or other debris. It is possible something is in there blocking one or more of the pins. You can use a small toothpick and/or small toothbrush to accomplish this. You also might perform a reset on the phone, it will not affect your data, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.
I get about the same. Chevy Malibu "No Media connected" if I plug mine in and push the play button on the phone over and over it will work suddenly start to work. I pretty much use the jack and the phone controls now. This started happening to me after I used blue tooth and/or cable to a Ford Fusion on a work trip.
