How do I copy calendar events into reminders?

I created events in Calendar for all of the due dates on the syllabus for my college courses. Rather than have them in Calendar, I would prefer to have them in Reminders so I can check off each assignment as I go. I've tried to export the full calendar and import it into Reminders but it does not appear. I've tried to drag and drop events onto the Reminders app in the dock but the event does not appear. Is there any way to do this beside manually entering each event again? I have a lot of events with data attached to them.
