how do i download previously purchased audiobooks from itunes to a new apple computer

You don't.
You copy them from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer.
thx for reply, my old macbook harddrive died. cant revive it.
If you don't have a backup, it's probably cheaper to buy them again. Recovering data from a failed drive may cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Alternatively, the iTunes Store staff may allow you a free redownload if asked, but will only do this once per person.
