You need to activate the keyboard for Kannada and the font will take care of itself. Go to system preferences/language & text/input sources and check the box for Kannada, plus the box for Show Input Menu in Menu Bar. Then select Kannada in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen. Then type. Use Keyboard Viewer to see which key does what.
The top right of your screen needs to look like

Thanks for your quick reply. I followed what you mentioned and found that it displays only basic letters of Kannada, but there are further extensions of the basic letters, which are not shown. The combination of keys to get different letters is not shown. The key board layout also is not shown. Please help me.
To show the keyboard layout, you need to use Keyboard Viewer

You should hold down the shift, option, and option + shift keys to see extra charactars.
