10.6.8, Safari 5.1, Yahoo Mail, Hopeless?

It's 2014 and why anyone still uses a browser to read their email amazes me.

Set up the Apple Mail app to get yor Yahoo stuff:

You may want to check with Yahoo support. A friend had issues after one of their redesigns and called them, and they were able to hep him out of it.

I have Safari 5.1.7 on an iMac running 10.6.8 and, even after the latest Yahoo redesign, have no problems accessing my mail through yahoo.

We should check for any other issues that could be at play:

1) Do you have any "pay-for" anti-virus, internet security, or one of those awfful "I'll clean your Mac" programs installed?

2) Are you running any Safari extensions?

3) Are you using third-party backup software such as those that come bundled with some external hard drives?

However, I agree with Kirk: web mail access is awkward and not as secure as using a mail client like Apple Mail. This is especailly true if you have a relatively slow internet service. And, like Kirk, I've tested yahoo e-mail handling on Apple Mail and it works fast and reliably.

PS: I only use my yahoo account when I need a "throw-away" e-mail address.

Hubby uses Yahoo mail side for non personalized emails. Yahoo has changed their format this week and is totally new setup. You must contact them with any questions. It's not Safari. Although Safari has issues lately with secured sites ie: banking etc.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone would use a device-specific email program, when web-based email allows you to access your email on any device, anywhere. Some of us want to access our email from more than one place.

My Yahoo email is unusable in Safari. Same problems you describe, tomfromchicago. I blame Yahoo, not Safari -- but since Yahoo has no decent feedback forum, I'm here to complain instead. I've started using Chrome to read my Yahoo email, but that's a pain.

Yahoo also has destroyed Flickr beyond recognition, and now they've effed up My Yahoo, too. I've been using these apps daily for over 10 years, and now I'm just so frustrated I could cry.

I use iCloud so my mail is synched to all my devices.

I was having the same problems, but when I switched to Yahoo mail basic, it now works fine. The user interface is butt ugly, and there are some missing features (no slideshow, no drag and drop attachments), but for my everyday purposes, it works. If you go up to the little gear icon, and click on settings, you can switch to basic.

That was the solution I needed.

It's a miracle! After weeks of using two browsers at a time -- Chrome for Yahoo Mail, Safari for everything else -- I just tried Yahoo Mail in Safari again. Everything worked fine. I'm cautiously optimistic -- holding my breath. Grateful to whoever apparently fixed this problem ....

I am having the same problem with yahoo mail, however I'm using the iPad mail app to fetch my yahoo mail and it is abysmal. Extremely slow, and been like that for weeks.

I was tearing my hair out with yahoo mail, too. Then, I got a new iPad (iPad air) and da new iPod touch (5S) and yahoo mail works like a charm. Are you on the latest OS? If not, they may be just forcing you to upgrade, the bastages.
