I have 3rd. generation 4Gb i-pod nano

when playing sometimes the sound stops. The track continues playing in silence until the next track which it then plays normally, until it happens again. It's happening more and more frequently. It happens whether it is playing through headphones or my Bose docking station. Any advice would be readily accepted. Thanks rednige
