Web service running but port 80 closed

I can't access websites on my server. A port scan doesn't show port 80 so I assume it isn't open. How can this be? In Server Admin the Web Service is running. Still no joy with the Firewall off, even with it on its show as allowing port 80.

My only clue could be that in Server Admin the Web Service Overview says the service is "running" but the start time is "not available" as is the Apache version.

What would you do?

Thanks!

Solved!

In Terminal type "httpd -t". This reported an error in the config file for one of my sites. I had a site running SSL on port 443 but there was no certificate selected in Server Admin. Adding a certificate allowed the web service to come fully on-line. Server Admin now reports the web service is running and includes the start time and apache version, both prevoiusly missing.
